Exploding the Myths

We know that girls have babies because they believe:

• " I’ll have someone to love"

• "Someone will love me"

• "I’ll do it better than my parents"

• "I can dress it up"

• "Everyone will think I’m grown up and won’t be able to tell me what to do"

• "He’ll stay with me if I have his baby"

• "I’ll get a place of my own which I can decorate and I'll have freedom to do what I like in my own home"

• "My friends will respect me"

• "I’ll have a proper family of my own"

Some boys think:

• "I’ll be able to have sex all the time"
  
  
• "I'm not allowed access to my first child. This girl will have a baby that I'm allowed to see"
  

Boys are, of course, less likely to make a choice to have a baby at a young age. They are though, part of the solution and need to be educated.
